About EMPAC | Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center “The concert hall of the 21st century has arrived. But in addition, the huge building, laid out on a hillside, houses a 400-seat theater with comparable versatility; two black-box studios, one geared more toward sound, the other toward sight; and space for rehearsals and other uses. And for their electronic and data needs, all these components have access to one of the world’s biggest supercomputers.” The New York Times (10/08/2008) At the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Institute), the arts, sciences, and technology meet under one roof in four exceptional venues. This incredible 220,000 square foot building, designed by London-based Grimshaw Architects, opened in 2008 and is an unmatched model of acoustics, infrastructure, and architectural engineering with state-of-the-art performing arts infrastructure and architectural engineering. EMPAC’s concert hall features 1,165 seats with the ability to sculpt the acoustical soundscape for musical performances and equipment for screens, projections, and staging elements. The Goodman Studio/Theater and Studio 2 are versatile spaces that can be used to create immersive experiences utilizing both projection and sound technology. EMPAC’s theater features computer-controlled rigging, a sixty-foot fly tower, and advanced recording audio and video recording technology. Beyond the four core venues, EMPAC houses residency studios, research offices, green room, soloists/conductor suites, changing rooms, and the main lobby level, as well as café and mezzanine levels, which are often used by students as studying and meeting spaces. Job Summary | The Executive Director of EMPAC will guide and deliver on its mission and vision as a global center at the intersection of the arts, science, and technology. They will be accountable for a strategic direction, business model, and adaptive change that are in alignment with the Institute’s Rensselaer Forward plan, including the goal to create the most welcoming and inclusive community possible for faculty, staff, students, and the external community EMPAC serves. The Executive Director will maintain a presence both on and off campus by actively participating in the community and establishing international visibility at relevant conferences and other events that increase exposure and access to artists that could curate, produce, or be presented by EMPAC. These activities are focused on preserving an integrated interdisciplinary pedagogical approach to research, programs, and campus events that inspire active participation by faculty and students in and attendance at EMPAC. The Executive Director will partner with each of the School Deans and Institute Administration to coordinate student learning outcomes, activating EMPAC as a hub for student learning on campus. They will oversee, inspire, and collaborate with a dedicated staff while investing in them and securing the resources that ensure EMPAC remains at the forefront of technological advancements. In collaboration with Institute Advancement and the President, the Executive Director will establish and maintain a portfolio of donor relationships that support the capital and operating needs of EMPAC, including its facilities, programs, and research. Additionally, the Executive Director will spearhead plans with the Office of Community Engagement and Communications to engage with local and regional organizations, as well as too raise the unique profiles of both EMPAC and the Institute in the region and on national and international levels. EMPAC’s core annual operating budget in fiscal 2024 is $4.6 million with additional expenses embedded in the Institute’s operational structure, and it has approximately 40 full-time staff. Qualifications | Qualifications The successful candidate will have a minimum of a master’s degree, or equivalent experience, and 8-10 years of senior management expertise in commissioning, promoting, programming, producing, and/or presenting contemporary music, theater, dance, multi-media, or other experimental creative industry initiatives. A comprehensive understanding of associated production, capacity utilization (both venue and staff), audience development, and venue management is important. Although experience in an academic environment is helpful, those with demonstrable results in nonprofit or corporate structures are welcome to pursue this unique opportunity. Exceptional relationship management, donor cultivation, and creative industries expertise with leading producers and artists at the national and international level is preferred. The capacity to work flexible hours on evenings and weekends is required in best serving the needs of numerous stakeholders. As a Greenhouse Coordinator, you will development and implementation of the botanical classroom instructional plans for students. You will report to the Transition Learning Coordinator and you will work onsite.
Responsibilities:
- Provide subject area instruction (Green house and plan based botanical) that provides students with appropriate level lessons and age experiences.
- Develop and implement instructional materials to provide individual and small group instruction to students of various ability levels grades 8 -12.
- Provide leadership in the school for promoting green house and gardening activities and experiences for students. Work with teachers to encourage classroom, small group, and individual activities, projects, and events.
- Coordinate the selection, ordering, and management of materials and equipment for the greenhouse and greenhouse related activities in conjunction with the school principal.
- Collect and organize program data for grant proposals and reports and assists in writing grants.
- Assist classroom staff with crisis prevention and intervention techniques; assist classroom staff with de-escalation techniques with appropriate; teach students appropriate behavior strategies.
- Represent the greenhouse and gardens at relevant conferences, community events andnetworking opportunities. Conduct workshops, tastings, classroom activities and garden clubs.
- Manage and coordinate the safety and well-being of students through the use of established classroom and schoolwide processes and procedures; supervise classroom staff in implementing these with their work with students throughout the building.
- Follow school and agency procedures and policies for reporting incidents. This includes behavior incident reports (IR) and incidents such as child/sexual abuse, substance abuse, harassment, bullying, and violence.
- Establish relationships with parents and family members to create a partnership around student treatment, student behavior, and academic progress.
- Participate in classroom grade level, and behavior/treatment meetings as well as professional training and development sessions (e.g. TCI, CPR, emergency procedures and other agency requirements.
- Follow all Agency policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to our school and students.
- Facilitate partnership between the greenhouse activities and gardens through home and school education programs by coordinating community workshops, recruiting home garden volunteers.
- Work with other teachers, clinicians, administrators, medical staff and other school staff to provide integrated support, assistance, and treatment to students.
- Assist with supervision of school-to-work program activities as needed.

- Requires a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or other related field with experience with greenhouse operation.

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks applicants for a Central Business Office Associate, who is responsible for coordinating/processing several operational activities in the ITS department. The Central Business Office (CBO) serves as the hub for all ITS finance and operations. The CBO Associate is an essential member of the team and interacts with multiple departments across the university, including Accounting, Asset Management, Facilities, Human Resources, and Purchasing. The successful candidate enjoys a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and getting out of the office to visit various locations on campus for equipment deliveries and receiving/disposal of assets. Primary Responsibilities:
Software Licensing:
- Review and respond to software license requests from faculty/staff/students.
- Distribute licenses in accordance with University and ITS policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of software purchases, activation codes, distribution/assignment of software licenses, and chargebacks to departments.
Billing:
- Process monthly billing for ITS activities and track receipt of payments.
- Investigate any discrepancies in revenue.
Asset Management:
- Work collaboratively across ITS to ensure accurate asset management needs and processes are fulfilled in a timely matter.
- Ensure all purchases have the appropriate Asset Management forms/tags when received and disposed of.
- Record accurate information in the Asset Management database, including the addition and removal of assets.
Additional/Other Responsibilities:
- Manage relationships with staff from ITS and other departments on campus to facilitate transactions for all Central Business Office activities.
- Serve as a backup for coverage of reception area.
- Perform all operations in compliance with SUNY and New York State financial / procurement policies.
- Handle confidential information and matters in a professional manner.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements.
- Be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation.

- An associate degree at time of hire from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

Help Merchandiser in the construction and installation of custom displays. Clean and organize POS warehouse, shop (area where custom displays are constructed) and rebate/shelf talker area.
Manage POS Materials
- Employee handles the receiving of all POS.
- Break down, divide, and organize POS.
- Put away all POS in its designated location of the warehouse.
- Continuously condense POS to make room for new POS.
- Discard expired POS as directed by supervisor.
- Update inventory of all POS on the Data Report and POS System (min 3 times per week)
- Distribute POS to sales reps and Managers or prepare for delivery to accounts as requested. (Place in cubbies or as directed)
- Manage rebates and shelf talkers. Clean and organize this section of the warehouse making sure expiration dates are clearly marked on rebate boxes and expired ones are discarded.
Manage Samples and Will-calls
- Receive and check in samples and will-calls from warehouse or transfer truck.
- Lock up all product in the designated secured area of the warehouse.
- Distribute to the sales reps and managers with proper documentation. (Printed name and signature from recipients as the sample policy states)
Merchandising Responsibilities
- Install both special displays and stock POS by working with merchandisers, customers, and sales management on the coordination of timing and location of displays.
- Daily monitoring of POS System to check for ordered displays awaiting installation.
- Input completed displays into the POS system in a timely manner.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations including company vans (maintenance) and work area.
Safety Protocol
- Perform daily safety checks on all equipment before use, confirming accordance with specific equipment requirements and maintain these records for 30 days.
- Maintain safety certification on all machinery used on the job. (Forklifts, pallet jacks and cardboard compactor)
- Wear all safety devices required (safety harness, vest and safety shoes)
General Responsibilities
- Receive and distribute incoming packages (FedEx and UPS) to designated recipients.
- Set up and break down salesroom for meetings.
- Help Merchandisers in the construction of custom display pieces.

Director of Client Services

Supervisor: Chief Information Officer
Position Purpose:Manages the Client Services and Learning Environments team, handling both personnel and financial aspects. Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or Business Administration, and a minimum of 5 years of successful management experience in a service-oriented technology environment, and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience. Master’s degree preferred.
- Proficient in Windows and Apple client hardware and operating systems.

Compensation
The annual salary range this position is $95,000.00 - $110,000.00. Geosciences Department Technician
Pay Status and Classification: Non-exempt, Regular full-time
Supervisor: Geosciences Chair
Position Purpose: Plays a crucial role in supporting students and faculty in the Geosciences department by assisting with field trips, laboratory exercises, instrument operation and maintenance, and classroom material preparation. This includes managing field equipment, coordinating off-campus activities, operating and maintaining instrumentation (mass spectrometers and chromatographs), managing supplies, and aiding in laboratory setup and sample preparation. Training available for all tasks. Department instrumentation includes a laser ablation inductively coupled mass spectrometer, ion chromatographs, a scanning electron microscope, and an isotope ratio mass spectrometer with peripherals. Department is busy, energetic, and friendly. Flexible hours possible.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Class Field and Lab Support: Coordinates with faculty to prepare/pack required field equipment and/or supplies for field excursions. Assists faculty with setup and breakdown of classroom laboratory specimens/equipment. Communicates with facilities for any repairs and maintenance that are required in geoscience labs or classrooms. Maintains, orders and upgrades field equipment as necessary. Drive field vehicle and assist with activities for selected student exercises.
- Geochemistry Instrumentation Operation and Maintenance: Assists with operating instrumentation (mass spectrometers, chromatographs, titrator, etc.). Prepares samples and standards analysis, assists faculty operating and maintaining instrumentation in both the stable isotope and ICP-MS geochemistry laboratories. Will be trained to operate the Stable Isotope Mass Spectrometer, ICP-MS, Ion Chromatographs, Metrohm auto-titrator, and Picarro CRDS. Maintains online chemical inventory along with safety data sheets and ensures proper use of inventory tracking systems. Performs routine maintenance of instruments (e.g. change oil, clean parts, change gas bottles, arrange for waste disposal). Troubleshoots and repairs instrumentation when possible and/or arrange consultations with appropriate personnel at the college or outside vendors. Maintain inventories of gasses/supplies for all teaching and research labs. Order gasses, and other supplies for the Geosciences Department and distribute to their destinations.
- Laboratory Work: Maintains Geosciences department shop, weather station, and tool area. Makes polished thin-sections and grain mounts for use in lab exercises and research projects. Repairs and maintains rock, mineral, and sediment sample processing equipment. Prepares specimens (mineral boxes, test kits, fossils) for class exercises.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geosciences or related fields. Three years relevant experience, or Masters in Geosciences or related fields preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license to assist faculty with outdoor field exercises, including driving vans.
- Demonstrated understanding of geological principles.
- Excellent organizational and data management skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work in various field conditions and travel to remote locations.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures in geoscientific work.
- Experience with analytical instruments is highly desirable (but training can be provided).
- Skills in thin-section preparation is highly desirable (but training can be provided).

Trolley Driver, On Call

Supervisor: Transportation Manager
Position Purpose: Provides transportation of Union College students, staff and community members to and from College approved locations following safety protocols
Responsibilities:
- Duties of the driver include a pre-trip inspection of the equipment to be used during the designated route

Athletics Equipment Manager
Supervisor: Assistant Director of Athletics - Business Operations
Pay status and classification: Exempt, Regular full-time. This is a 12-month position.
Position Purpose: Oversees, organizes, and directs all aspects of the athletics equipment area in support of the mission and core values of Union College. Union College sponsors 26 intercollegiate sports, 24 in Division III, with Ice Hockey competing at Division I.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Operations: Manages the day to day services of the athletics equipment room. Coordinates laundry room operations with coaches to ensure needs are met. Maintains inventory for accurate equipment and apparel records. Oversees distribution, collection and maintenance of records. Collaborates with Hockey Equipment Manager to ensure successful oversight of services for programs.
- Safety: Ensures proper fitting and adjustment of equipment for intercollegiate programs to provide a safe environment for student-athletes. Ensures all equipment and apparel is ready for safe use and remains current with industry standards for safety. Successfully maintains Athletic Equipment Manager Association (AEMA) certification.
- Administration: Oversees the purchasing of equipment and apparel for intercollegiate sport programs. Collaborates with coaches for program needs, create purchase orders, projecting apparel and equipment budgets. Builds relationships with athletics vendors. Continually evaluates policies and procedures to ensure effectiveness of equipment room operations. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff of work-study workers. Adheres to NCAA, College and athletic department policies. Pitches in to assist colleagues as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years of successful experience in athletics equipment operations and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience, including football and ice hockey.
- Knowledge of maintaining equipment for ice hockey and football to ensure safety.
- Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA certification) or the intent to complete the certification once eligible.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends for equipment operations at practices and games, which include home and away contests.
- Ability to lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.), and stand, bend and stoop for extended periods of time.
- Must possess or obtain a valid New York State driver’s license.
- Thorough understanding and working knowledge of federal, state, local, and NCAA, rules, policies and procedures.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including attention to detail.
- Effective computer skills for maintaining accurate records, budget forecasting and purchasing of equipment and apparel.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and be self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Able to exercise exceptional judgment, ensure strict confidentiality, and demonstrate outstanding professionalism in a range of situations.
